Recover access with backup codes

Prepare for a lost or replaced phone.

  1. At the authenticator step during sign-in, enter one unused recovery code instead of the six-digit app code. Each recovery code works once.
  2. After recovering access, open Security & sessions and replace the recovery codes or disable the old authenticator before setting up your new device.
  3. Replacing codes invalidates all previous recovery codes. Download the replacement set immediately.
  4. If you have neither a recovery code nor another valid sign-in method, contact support from the account recovery options. Support will not ask you to send a password, setup key, or authenticator code.
